Greetings from the both of me
I descend as the sun climbs
No longer a sparkle in the night
I’ve begun to dim the more it shines
Has this sun stole my light?
It was never as simple as a mask used for the public eye. A mask can be removed at will. A mask is not apart of ones self. A mask can be ripped off by you or anyone else that knows it’s there. Many of the people you meet will not have a mask to wear, they will have multiple selves to meet. Have you heard stories of actors playing roles so well they lose themselves? It’s a phenomenon which extends far beyond the world of entertainment. To climb in power, financial gain, status, or anything else greatly desired, many times people will lose themselves. And unlike a mask that must be willingly placed, it can all happen without the knowledge of that very person. Another you is created. No not a fake personality but an entity that stems from the very desires you wished so much to come true. Made by you, apart of you, it is you. Every handshake now signals the start of a new plot, it becomes impossible to differentiate a laugh and a malicious chuckle. This alter ego will break down others to find the utilities needed to upgrade itself. It’s not that you’ve changed, it’s that you’ve found a way to satisfy your wants and needs; an unethical one. But what do you do when your desire to succeed tramples your commitment to ethics? Whether unknowingly or all according to plan, your two sides split. One that stops at nothing to complete it’s goal and another that makes your heart feel like it hasn’t lost itself or the ones around it. You may call it a side for business and a side for pleasure. The issue is you never know who has split themselves apart. some never even know if they done it to themselves. We are told to wear a seatbelt even when we don’t expect to crash, it is to understand you can’t control what’s around you. Protect yourself and proceed with caution.
